'smokin - luther
Man, I am so girlishly giddy about seeing the Smoking Popes tonight at the Mohawk. I mean, come on! I know I stand alone most of the time among even former pop-punk enthusiasts (which I am categorically not) in my un-dieing love of what have become post punk icons, but I am willing to stake a fair amount on this being a pretty great performance. Seasoned musicians, a broad catalog, and essentially no pretense. Set aside the terrible tribute album, the Clueless soundtrack and the years long hiatus and enjoy the bleeding heart music of so many relatable, slightly teenage stories in all it's glory.
'Good one' to Transmission for booking them so I don't have to go over to Red Seven or Emo's and brave the usual punk club patrons, bar tenders and bathrooms. Seeing them at the Mohawk makes it all the better; now and forever, my favorite place.
