flashing lights -john

Praise be to local wunderkinds Loxlsy who seem to be getting more and more internet press lately.  We have been fans of the band since frontman Cody Ground was making quirky songs about cats and cars on his computer back in Waco.  Nowadays the Austin based project is fleshed out with ultra talented pop enthusiasts and is riding a wave of popularity thanks to the relentless years of top notch live shows featuring homemade light rigs, bubbles, smoke machines, you name it! Locals know that Loxlsy is the closet thing we have to a Flaming Lips style performance both in terms of heartfelt lyrics and projections of oddballness juxtaposed with smart, interesting rock and roll. Watch out Austin, the internet is catching on.

Their new EP Flashlights features fewer guitars than previous records almost separating the band from their previous rocking releases.  When the guitar does poke it’s head out- it is subtle, effects-laiden and restrained. So i guess this is growing up.  The production is organic yet slick, highlighting the same lively range and vocals as ever but showing great maturity from Maps and Organs.  As always – the genuine cracks in Grounds’ voice are one of the aspects that sets the band above other groups, right along with eerie steel guitar, bouncy Robert Sledge-esq bass playing, and poetic lyrics with reoccurring motifs and harmonies that fit together like that crown that lets you control the Golden Army in Hellboy 2.   All hail Loxsly!  (That is with an X- screw the imposters that use the “Locksley” spelling.)

I will stop gushing about how good the record is and just let you check out some of the recent press they have gotten yourself! Check it out:
