This weekend was excellent.  It was full of movies, beer and pizza as per usual but was greatly improved upon by the presence of the great Wham City delegate Dan Deacon.  Crowds just don’t seem to care at other shows about going crazy as much as they do at DD shows.  Playing mostly new stuff Deacon commanded the crowd into a dance circle, a dance gauntlet and above all a dancing mob full of smiles, giggles and ironic t-shirts.  Read an EXCELLENT recap over at Covert Curiosity!

Sunday night’s Mohawk show had excellent performances by Denton’s ambassador of quirkiness Fishboy!  Their opening set was full of energy and the audience collectively marveled at how the simplest pop songs were transformed into complex aural treasures thanks largely in part to drummer John Mustafis who consistently found places for double bass pumps and cymbal quadruplets in between mega fast fills and overall technically proficiency.  Also, he had a pretty sweet mustache.  Fishboy churned thru several songs from their ridiculously titled concept album Albatross: How We Failed to Save the Lone Star State with the Power of Rock and Roll. Pick it up HERE.  I'll have pictures up soon...

Iowa’s Poison Control Center rocked it mid 90’s style with crazy energy and a great song about Texas cult hall of fame member David KoreshPeel finished off the night sans a member but still managed to play a great cover of the Kinks’ “I’m not like everybody else.”

So there you have it: another great music weekend.  Now I am counting down the minuets until Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter cruise thru the Mohawk this Friday night.  We are happy to present an after show on the inside stage of the Mohawk featuring some of our favorite local acts Built By Snow and Terp 2 It!  Many more details to come soon…. Stand by..

Have a good day.
