Friday night’s Mohawk show with Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black was the coldest I had been in a year. With crazy Texas weather- MLK weekend marks the beginning of our short sleety winter. Surely at this point in the week it is almost over..
The Mohawk was as full as ever and as a result the line to get in looked like something right of sxsw. Michael Showalter graciously started his set early in an effort to accommodate the cold Texans, a gesture especially appreciated by those still waiting in line who were able to have a sparkle of hope to help their toes from cracking off and being lost forever in a puddle of Doug the guy who says “I’m outta heeeere” anticipation. This was true gentlemanly act. Top notch I tell you what.
Showalter’s set was a lot of back and forth with the audience and a lot of playing with his iTunes. Creed is still funny. Still. A few inappropriate hip-hop dances and a few funny fake movie trailers later the set winded down with a brief overlap where he shared the stage with Michael Ian Black. The back and forth between the two was pretty amazing if nothing else just to see two alt-comedy legends together.
Black’s set was more of a “routine” with less banter with highlights including a bit about ejaculating wasabi and other non-pleasant substances and how to take away your friend’s masculinity. One of my favorite elements of his set was closing essay “an Ode to Conversion Vans” I always enjoy his contributions to McSweeny’s so to hear his slightly effeminate voice aloud rather than in my head was a treat.
Those who stuck around for the PartyEnds.com After Show featuring Built By Snow and Terp 2 It were in for a full evening of entertainment.
Built By Snow debuted a few new pop gems and held a raffle to give out copies of their rad debut Noise. The crowd tapped their frost bitten feet as the band churned thru songs about girls, radios and more girls.

Terp 2 It came out with his gi-normous wrestling championship belt in front of him, his gloriously strange projections behind him and his posse beside him who acted as Adrock and Mike D to his MCA. Imagine 8-Mile happening live at a comic con and you have an idea of what Terp 2 It is like. There are a few more pictures HERE…
