bad mutha' dudes - luther
So, maybe it's been a while since you were in that strange month or two of your wistful youth in which you could totally and completely get on board with the strange in-between aestetic of prog-rock. Maybe it was Gentle Giant, or maybe it was Genesis, but there's a good chance that you were lulled by the mathy precision and nerd-centric technicality of this niche at some point. If so, then you might enjoy the throwback to those halcion day I found in listening to LA's Bad Dudes.
A band of monicered cohorts on the ever surprising Retard Disco label (along with groups like Bark Bark Bark and 1800 Zombie), Bad Dudes may suffer from the 'bad names happen to good bands' disease, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they still seem to be a pretty damn good band. Keep your eyes on these guys in the near future, because there is a pigeon hole of closet Rush fans who might just be waiting for such a group to sweep them out of the late 70's and into the future. Oh, and they use robot voices prominently, which is always cool. Check out this track:
