your magic is real - luther (dallas,tx)
What do you get is you take a typical five piece band, sleeves heavy with 80's love, ready to make some fun music, and take away the drummer (no one cool in the 80's had one anyway), throw in some updated synth sounds, a little extra guitar, a falsetto sitting crooner, and a pedal steel? If handled badly, a cacophonous mess, or if handled well, Austin's Magic Surprise.
Wedging right into the current dance trends but eschewing the harsher aspects of the popular new-rave bangers inundating the scene right now, Magic Surprise 'goes their own way' while fitting perfectly into a fun show. The ear pleasing mix of washy and stabby synths and rhythmic lead guitar mixes well under the waspy vocals while the lyrical content touches on varied aspects of modern living and youth culture. Apparently a relative newcomer to the Austin scene, MS has the potential to appeal to a broad audience, from hipster-danceaholics to 30 something head-bobbers, so come and have a look for yourselves tomorrow night as Party Ends and the Mohawk present:
At 6$ per over 21 and $8 under, it is sure to trump any plans you might already have for tomorrow night. So come on over.

no pedal steel, just a lowly lap steel, pal...

Damn, a appologize, I got carried away. Lap steel's still rule, though.
