sunday scene - luther (dallas,tx)

Wow, the weeks just fly by lately. Maybe I'm getting older, maybe my mid-week meth benders are getting longer, but it just doesn't seem like I have the time I used to. For one thing, my wife and I are hunting for an apartment / rental house in Austin (if anyone has any leads... please), which is quite a task from a city on the other side of the state. Another element of the business these days are all of the events that this here web-site is lathering up, almost exclusively by John, over in  A-town. This week there's the Til We're Blue or Destroy and (our PE fav) Astronautalis, we have the next Draft Sessions later this month, which is going to be incredible since we finally got The Laughing at one, we have the freak out dance fun of Single Frame and La Snacks coming up, and the new-blog-hypster Bark Bark Bark on his way from AZ too, along with several other shows in the works that are going to blow your feeble little caffeine addled Sunday morning minds. Seriously, it's gonna be a great summer.

Anyway, I have some stuff to keep you occupied for a while this morning, even though it's a beautiful day and there are productive things you could be doing right now, along with all that stuff you've been putting off, and the mere fact that you're life is passing by right now, as you read this, and you'll never get this time back. So here it is:

I avoid talking about Sufjan Stevens as much as I can, because everyone else on the planet does it enough as it is, but that doesn't change the fact that he's a fine and shockingly talented artist. In this video the corn-fed Americana hero once again proves that his little farmer's baseball cap is not ironic by playing a banjo and singing about North America with those signature minor-key changes and his range roving croon. Playing his recently much-hocked cover of the Lakes of Canada by the Innocence Mission, on a roof top of the very appropriate Cincinnati's Memorial Hall. Portraying that elusive American image that so few (They Might be Giants, Sarah Vowell, etc.) are able to grasp, from La Blogotheque, here's the Take Away Show:

And I don't know if maybe everyone in the world but me has seen this (that's the way these things usually work), but if your a human than the two elements of what make this video awesome probably apply to you: you have a MySpace profile, and you think Matt Besser is a comic genius. Here's Matt Besser as Myspace's Tom teaching you how to use your MySpace profile as bait to catch Friends:

(He does loose points for saying that Elliot Smith died of a drug overdose, though. I mean, it's not like he didn't do drugs, but that's just a little homework)

And what Sunday would be complete without some Baby Cakes, although this one is getting a little more fucked up, and a little less funny than before. It's still good, and did I mention fucked up?

And some follow-up Professor Brothers:

I think I just developed a crush on Sufjan.

Only just now? That would only be not-strange if your a dude.

I am only human, and yes I do think that Matt Besser is a comic genius, and yes, I also have a crush on Sufjan.
