I have really been enjoying watching SoundCheck Magazine get better and better. If you dig through the magazines in my bathroom- chronologically the SoundChecks just keep getting more interesting. They have won me back over from the time they listed Ben Folds Five coming to town; mocking me with ignorance hurts- it really does. But they have redeemed themselves.
Reasons the rag is solid:
- It’s local as fuck.
- They were the FIRST to slap Voxtrot on the cover in the recent Voxtrot-mania of 07' and then the Austin Chronicle, Austin Music Magazine and XLent followed.
- Each and every photo in each issue is amazing. The shoots they do with bands are innovative and fun and their concert shots kick me in the face with their skill.
- They are about to host a great fucking lineup at outside Emo’s full of some of my favorite, ultra-fun live bands!
This Friday the 29th- come check out 6 bands at Emo’s for the SoundCheck Summer Showcase! Sure, the all-powerful Octopus Project headlines shows in Austin every 2 months or so but I haven’t seen them matched up with such a good bill in forever! Clap!Clap! is still promoting their mega release You Love This and still making audiences from San Marcos to Austin clap uncontrollably. Read our review of the freshness here.
Peachcake is never to be missed. These guys are practically the flagship export of all the crazy good electronic music coming from the young lions in Arizona. The other good Austin bands seem like obvious choices if you are putting together a huge show like this- but SoundCheck, I have to hand it to you, the booking of Peachcake- good call. Good call indeed. Read of our admiration of Peachcake here.

Why thank you, John. That's mega-sweet of you. I am pretty proud of booking Peachcake if I say so myself. I would just like to interject here that the other three bands whom you did not mention are *also* kick-ass in their own ways. I think Murder By Death and Pilotdrift are well-known enough to stand on their own, but I feel it's important to let everyone know about the Awesomeness Who Is Ian Cooke. The dude has a cello and a loop pedal and OWNS THE WHOLE WORLD. Mark my words: he's going to be huge.

Yeah, Pilot Drift is pretty damn awesome, I was telling John yesterday. I've seen them in Dallas a few times, and they are on the Good Records label, which is cool. A cello and a loop pedal does sound pretty sweet.
