the golden (bear) age - john (austin,tx)

God damn- how are Golden Bear so good?  I know I am probably the last person to chime in and catch onto this Austin C Side Records pop rock band but I can’t stop listening to their album To the Farthest Star after seeing them play a few weeks ago at Rosa’s birthday party at the Mohawk. Live they were tight, fun and bearded but on this new album… oh man!  It’s fantastic!  It’s Midlake on uppers and the Polyphonic Spree just relaxing a little bit.  It’s that Weezer B-side reworked and updated.  It’s happiness.  The horn and string arrangements throughout the album elevate this recording to the top of my list of things that I am excited about right above that pint of Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream  I have in my freezer and a Midnight screening of the Jerk  this weekend at the Lake Creek Alamo Drafthouse complete with Pizza in a Cup.

I am extremely proud of the group for getting such great national attention for my fair city and extremely ashamed of myself for just now getting on board Golden Bear express. See the rest of my cruddy pictures of Golden Bear and Loxsly from the Mohawk here.

Buy the album here and see the band TONIGHT at Emo's Lounge!

I think this makes it unanimous! Everyone loves the GB! Woohoo

Galaxy Queen: pretty good song, really bad name

C side, clever. Another pretty cool Austin band.
