Party Ends

   At last weekend’s Draft Sessions tons of local folks were able to come out to the Independence Brewery and enjoy complimentary samples of sweet sweet beer and sweet music from the Lovely Sparrows and AM Syndicate.

   I would like to extend my thanks to Independence  and Raw Word Records for another flawless and fun-filled event… pay attention and come out to our next event which will no doubt once again be full of beer and some of the best in what Austin music has to offer!  

   The Lovely Sparrows were in full force with a variety of instrumentation including a melodica; old school Casio keyboards and the ever-present aggressive folk strum of front man Shawn Jones.  The octopus armed multi instrumentalist Paul Brinkley helped fill out the band’s live set into a series of polyrhythm acoustic flourishes that left the visiting micro-brewers of the country and the locals of Travis County in awe.  This was the band’s first Austin show since their return from a Midwest tour and Draft Sessions participants were lucky enough to hear the debut of several new songs all of which exemplify the excitement that surrounds this exceptional band.   

   AM Syndicate made HUGE sound out of two keyboards, drums, guitar and vocals.  Add a little xylophone here and there and you have your self a mainstay to Austin music that will have a new album soon recorded by PartyEnds' fav aural extraordinaire Erik Woffard. The consistently intricate drum work from Vincent Durcan set the background for an interesting set with plenty of flair from the front of the stage adding more and more electro layers.

   DJ Markus with a K kept things going through out the night. My favorite blend was some good ass Modest Mouse from the Moon and Antarctica into some vintage Gang of Four. As always- my favorite beer from the evening was the Freestyle Wheat Beer (available in bottles at Texas Central Markets. HEB, Spec’s and on tap at Austin’s finer Bars and at Lucky Lou’s in Denton!).
