cool kids on the block - luther (dallas,tx)
Well, I've recently been kind of disenchanted with rap music in general. I mean, don't get me wrong, I enjoy a clever mash-up as much as the next guy, but gees. Maybe I just burned out, somewhere between MIA and "This is Why I'm Hot", I pretty much dropped the flow from my delicate listening routine all together; until this shit.
Hell yessss, this is what we need right now. I've been hooked on these out of left field gems by the Cool Kids for the last couple of days. Out on Fools Gold Records, founded by immediate party starter A-trak, the Cool Kids are taking things to their baser elements. This duo keeps it simple, with relatively strait forward beats, complex enough to keep it moving, stock MPC stabs, and a variety of original sounds that heralds to a simpler time. The tag team keeps things clear, slow, and low; sparse on the overt Ebonics and sticking to clever, well thought out, methodical rhymes. This will rock your block and give you a chuckle or two at the same time, shifting from thought provoking to silly in equal measure. Resurrect the heart of true B-boys.

if you think they have Kanye like rhymes it's cause it's a Chicago cultural style of hip hop like Houston has screw Chicago just has intelligent glitchy rap... they were dope at SXSW and Kid Sister who is on their label did stuff with Kanye so maybe that answer your question some.
