Party Ends

   So, there is a good chance that you have heard a lot of shit about, and might even have heard a good portion of music from Portland's Jona Bechtolt, a.k.a. YACHT, what with his previous releases of chopped-up overdrivonomy and all the blogospheric pressure about his latest release I Believe In You. Your Magic Is Real. As it turns out, all the hype might well be merited, believe it or not.

   As one half of pop-wunderkinds The Blow, and a contributor to not only the music community at large, but apparently the visual arts and literary communities as well, Bechtolt seems a very accomplished youth (the kind that makes you feel like an ass for being so lazy all the time). With projects as varied as a museum commissioned pop-opera and co-creating a renowned blogger collective, it's a wonder that he has time sleep, let alone make these dancable electronic masterpieces, but here they are. That is combined with his extensive world touring with whatever group or project he is involved in at the time (previously including Panther, Little Wings, Mt. Eerie, Bobby Birdman, Devendra Banhart, and E*Rock). All of this production and continent hopping is done, reportedly and admirably, without the use of 'stimulants' as well.

   On this track, Bechtolt comes off like a less jaded and less ironically effeminate (though not as disarmingly honest) Kevin Barnes, layed across an almost entirely synthesized backing track. With a near unrivaled aesthetic and an independent, yet still entirely accessible appeal, this could only be the beginning for YACHT.
