morning spy - john (austin,tx)

Morning Spy is from San Fransisco and put out an amazing indie pop album called the Silver Age in 2005 and now, 2 years later, I am listening to it and it's blowing me away. With members now living in different states the group is still technically “together”- just not actively playing live. I guess if there isn’t a girlfriend / boyfriend who encourages a member to pursue a solo project, or there is no bad blood over drug addictions, etc., there is no reason to break up right? You might as well stay together: good move Morning Spy- so I have hope. One thing to the guy in the hat though- it’s not working for you.
I recently ran across the Silver Age because they're on Abandoned Love Records, the same fine-feathered label who puts out the Lovely Sparrows. From what I can tell, Morning Spy got some good college radio play and some laudatory praise from the blogs when these songs came out. I was thinking the other day how many of my favorite albums came out in 2005, so maybe I'm just stuck in a two-years-ago mindset, but this album is amazing, right up there in the top echelons. In the vein of the New Pornographers or the Delgados the album makes perfect use of that soft spot in my heart, and my ears, for sweet boy / girl pop and indie folk.

Ahh, 05', how we miss you. When indie was still an OK word to use, faux-hawks were all the rage, and no one had even heard the term "New-Rave" on this side of the Atlantic.

This is really good, why do these bands stop making music? I guess no one supports them.
