i don't really trust the public - luther (dallas,tx)
Wow, this is news to me, but it would appear that our favorite gallery in the whole wide world is getting a bit of an overhaul. Deep Ellum's fundamental hub of all things visually stimulating is changing from Art Prostitute to The Public Trust. Though still run by Art Pro co-founder and resident super nice guy Brian Gibb, the gallery will no longer be associated with the magazine (which will still be produced under the same name bi-annually as a hardcover book). C'est la vie. At least it's still gonna have great art, affordable prints and books, and killer openings (parties that is. Not, like, doors and stuff).
Speaking of such wily pursuits, the first order of business for the freshly reincarnate gallery is to have an exhibit celebrating it's past life. One Up: An Art Prostitute Retrospective Exhibition and Humanitarian Aid Benefit will be held this weekend, April 28, and run through June 18. It will feature work by former Art Pro alumni like Rob and Christian Clayton, Bask, Tes One, and Allison V. Smith. 20% of all the sales from the exhibition will be donated to a humanitarian aid organization of the patron's choice. Pretty fly. And if art weren't enough, local hero's The Party will be on the wheels through the exhibit, and at the official after party at Zubar. Also at the after party will be the indelible Tittsworth, from DC, who is getting a lot of play from the hipster-party kids right now. It should be a night.
The reception is this Saturday from 7pm to 10pm at 2919 down ol' Commerce Street way, here in Dallas. The afterparty costs $10 a head.

I really hope that the gallery keeps up the good work it was doing before. Maybe it's for the best.
