1.800.zombie - luther (dallas,tx)

"I love you Myspace. Yet again, you have allowed me to stumble onto off kilter, phenomenal music that would only a few years ago have been only accessible if I, like, went to high-school with the musicians. Diamonds in the rough. Diamonds."

The latest accidental treasure is another entrant into the retro-blip music game, only this time utilized in a very different way than your average Crystal Castles. 1-800-Zombie (not to be confused with previously posted about 1-800-Dracula, which also deals out the peppy Nintendo fun) is a girl duo out of Keller Texas (where? It's kind of near Dallas) that makes listenable, lo-fi bloop-pop that is as infectious as it is cute. There is no pretense here, where the lyrics are as tongue in cheek as the instrumentation, laced with juxtaposed junior-petite themes and well tempered obscenity. The tracks are upbeat, well executed, and indicative of what I'm sure it a really fun live show. Akin to Fancy Feast or even Sparrow Love Crew, few other groups doing anything like this even come close to touching 1-8Z's shit.

The lead track on their Myspace, Unicorn (demo), will blow your mind with it's simplicity, content, and mind-bending catchiness. Not straying in essence from describing the typical activities and personality traits of an average unicorn, the song touts a chanting chorus that ensures you won't ever misspell unicorn again in your life, or perhaps ever even stop spelling it in your head. And don't miss the flash music video on their Myspace either.

We are behind this shit, like 200%; damn. Catch the ladies at Rubber Gloves in Denton on June 9th, and around North Texas otherwise. 1-800-Zombie will also release a cassette on label All My Friends Are Gold and a CD through Towntone. And here is one of the tracks, go listen to the others, though.

Stream: 1-800-Zombie- Unicorn (& others)

Oh yeah, and they are both 17 years old. What were you doing when you were 17?
