Party Ends: february draft sessions recap!

The February installment of Draft Sessions out at Independence Brewery was a blast with both Awesome Cool Dudes and Til We’re Blue or Destroy delivering outstanding performances to a good size, local beer drinking crowd; and, best of all, the proceeds went to charity!

Awesome Cool Dudes impressed with high-pitched vocals, lap steel guitars, and an amazing Traveling Wilburys cover. The band was able to bring their novelty synth rock to the masses, playing to an audience of fans and many who, after regaining their senses, left with quite a new found story to tell friends who weren’t there: “it was this band. and they like… wore basketball warm up jerseys… it was pretty cool…”

I saw Til We’re Blue or Destroy at the devastatingly successful the Laughing album release last week, but at their Draft Sessions show the band was given plenty of room to spread their 8 person roster so they all could have room to get into their set, and even have a light or two aimed at them. TWBOD should only play where they have this luxury because the difference is amazing. The band was noticeably happy with the way the set was going, even when one keyboardist ran to the bathroom during a song and made it back just in time to sing her verse. The reverberations of vintage keyboards and two (count ‘em- two!) drummers off the multiple tanks in the brewery made the group sound exceptional. I can’t wait for their album to come out! It’s just a matter of time with these guys….

DJ Orion and Jazz One did what they do best and keept things trill nonstop. Their radness was subtle in that the brewery never erupted into a full on dance party… but thanks to these guys the urge was palatable on the minds of everyone there, young and old alike.
