Party Ends

   The Onion has been the most consistently funny thing on the Internet for years.  Now they are distributing their paper in Austin and to kick off their corporate expansion they threw down for some amazing entertainment to let everyone in town know  “we’re here, we love lone star beer-get used to it.”

   Last Wednesday night at the downtown Alamo Drafthouse there was a forum of four of the Onion’s top writers moderated by the great Comedian of Comedy Patton Oswalt. Patton warmed up the crowd with an amazing set full of riffs on Star Wars Prequels, KFC Chicken Bowls and an amazing 1977 movie that was just released on DVD calledDeath Bed: the Bed That Eats. The forum was extremely funny as the writers touched on “the process,” people thinking that the paper is real and an extra great fact that the White House tried to get them to cease and desist using the presidential seal by saying that it was illegal- when in fact it is very legal.  The New York Onion staffers showed some great Texas articles from over the years poking fun at Austin’s love of hacky sacks and BBQ.  They also added some fresh perspective to the ongoing Michael Richards scandal.  Their verdict is that the guy is just an asshole.  “If a girl had heckled him he would have screamed the C- Word over and over again.”  

   I woke up the next day still grinning about some of the Patton Oswalt jokes.  I told everyone at work about them, I went out and rented Death Bed: the Bed That Eats although I have yet to watch it… I could rant about how inspiring and hilarious he set was for a long long time.  He was in Austin recording a new live comedy album over at Capitol City Comedy Club so keep an eye out for that in the future.
