Party Ends

   So, I really love Christopher Guest. Since This is Spinal Tap redefined comedy, he has been in some way responsible for some of the funniest moments dedicated to celluloid. You can imagine that, when it's been as long as it has since the last movie ( almost 3 years ) I was pretty excited, as I'm sure most of you were and are, about For Your Consideration, the latest in Mr. Guest's long line of mockumentaries. And I'm here to tell you that, well, don't get your hopes up as high as I did.

   I mean, For Your Consideration is good, seriously. The unscripted method of getting together witty, talented people and giving them the bones of a story results in some truly humorous moments. But, the subtly of the comedy is sometimes so substantial that some 'jokes' just come off as awkward and silly, and, while there is a slow-burn quality to that, during the movie I just ended up really bored. 

   The real disappointment to me, and I think a great misjudgment by the production team, was that %80 of the really funny one liners were in the couple of trailers that I saw over and over again months before the film even came out. There was some great work by every member of the cast, the seasoned Guest veterans and especially from surprise additions such as Ricky Gervaise. I don't want to give away the last few surprises, but I will say that the funniest moments in the film were carried, in my opinion, by John Micheal Higgins, and ( of course ) Fred Willard.

   I would suggest you go and see this movie, because it's really good by the standards of the modern state of big budget comedy. Just don't go into the theater thinking that this could be the best Christopher Guest movie ever, because it isn't. Bear that little piece of advice in mind, and you should enjoy it a lot more than I did ( and maybe drink some coffee or shoot some NoDoz first, too ).
