best. show. ever. bonde do role/css/diplo - john
Incredible.
Between the acts from Brazil, Diplo and Peachcake earlier in the week... I am completely spoiled to amazing live performances. The sound at the Parish Club was the perfect place to see bands whose enjoyment relies so much on loud, danceable beats.
Bonde Do Role was the act I was most excited about in the lineup. DJ Gorky warmed up the crowd with highlights from his mix tape ‘Electro Pancada’ then he was joined by the rest of Bonde Do Role- a short pale girl with bleach blond hair and two tattoos of Dali’s melting clocks on her shoulders and a slender dude with camo pants and a Shaq jersey. Throughout their amazingly energetic set they freaked danced an audience member, humped each other and wore crazy LED light glasses. During her first stage dive it seemed that I was solely responsible for catching her as my fellow crowd members backed away. Thanks guys. As you can imagine holding a Brazilian girl is not contusive to taking a quality picture, so my apologies.
In a perfect world, I could befriend the girl from Bonde Do Role, and she could come hang out with my friends and I, run up to strangers on the street yell in their faces, freak dance them then get another cool ass tattoo. We would be great friends. She could teach me about what her awesome sounding Brazilian lyrics mean and I could teach her what little information I know about bras with support. Because she really could use some schooling in that department
CSS was full of energy and pulled the same stage diving routine as Bonde Do Role. There was no need for three guitarists but damn were they ever from Brazil and therefore could inherently be fantastic performers. Their pop cultures references paved the way for their greatness and even now as I write this days later… still brings a smile to my face (DFA1979, Paris Hilton, etc)
Diplo did a few cool tricks with some VJ software including the brilliant mash of the “Whisper Song” with the Beastie’s “Sure Shot” over it with video accompaniment. He did a handful of other Hollertronix favorites, played his obligatory jamz (Walk Like an Egyptian, and a Houston rap set to close out the night) and therefore- he kept the crowd dancing until the Parish closed. It was an utter blast.
