economy at jesse’s bed and breakfast - john

Jesse’s Bed and Breakfast is basically the house of two dudes who host live music performances for local and touring acts. It’s put up in the same vein of once great (RIP) Church of the Friendly Ghost in Austin. The name of the venue is misleading: the art space is not run by anyone named Jesse (Michael and Stu) and despite the large refrigerator of communal beer, did not seem like any bed and breakfast I had heard of. What it lacks in accurate naming it more than makes up for quality sound. As I am currently in the process of selling some unwanted furniture, I was impressed that the whole house was fairly empty and therefore perfect for a DIY music venue. I was also impressed to see some bitching low budget sound proofing in a living room…
I could go on and on about how cool it is for two twenty somethings to get an underground venue off the ground, but I will spare you. Hopefully you will be hearing more about the good work they are doing here at PartyEnds.
The act that brought me out to the venue in the first place was Austin’s Economy. For this show the duo performed without strings and played a better sounding and more involved set of recorded and new songs to a small and intimate crowd with two keyboards and array of plump loops and samples. Even though the crowd was slim the energy and enthusiasm of the group was immense.

It is truly amazing to witness beat maker Cordon Simmons clap, stomp and stir up the audience during the more upbeat tracks. Why hordes of nubile ladies aren’t throwing panties up on stage for this up and coming group is beyond me. Economy evokes joy division, why?, bjork beats, and postal service. You will love them. Hit them up on myspace.com/economy and for a REAL treat: see the band live.
