I’ve really been looking forward to Greenberg. It played the Berlin Film Festival a few weeks ago and the reviews seemed to be mixed, but all of the descriptions scream that it’s something I will most likely be a sucker for. Aimless people frustrated with life and looking for meaning in menial things like relationships, and there’s a relevant soundtrack? Sign me up. This is the sort of movie I fall for hook, line and sinker. It looks like a slightly more marketable Away We Go. A studio version of all those mumblecore movies that play at film festivals and then get bought up by netflix. It doesn’t hurt that Greenberg is from Noah Baumbach and has a killer score. The soundtrack boasts 11 solo pieces from LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and one new LCD song, along with tunes by Nite Jewel, Albert Hammond, Galaxie 500, the Sonics, and Duran Duran.
The soundtrack for Greenberg is out March 22 on DFA/Parlophone, and the movie is out March 26 in select cities. The film sounds like it will be getting a pretty limited release, but I hope that it makes it way to a theater near you and I so we can watch Ben Stiller be great again and forget all about the Night at the Museum series. Stiller is a good guy who is terribly self-aware of his persona (did you see the Razzies ) and always has been (Feel This Book.) You can’t help but applaud a man who uses his billions to jab Lance Armstrong and help charitable causes at the same time. Ben Stiller, we salute you and your association with an exciting project by offering up a prize giveaway sure to entice and excite. Three lucky winners will receive a free sampler of the Greenberg Motion Picture Soundtrack. All you have to do is email PartyEnds@Gmail.com with “Greenberg” in the subject line and a winner will be randomly chosen on April 2nd at noon.
Check out the trailer if you haven’t seen it already. Tell your friends that you should see this instead of that 3D Dragons movie. I’d love to see this movie do well. Also- look closely for a James Murphy cameo at the :26 mark…
AND – here is Stiller on the genius Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis!
