sole hustlin- john

coolspaceyJames Brown is the Minister of the New New Super Heavy Funk (among a ton of  other awesome nicknames) People call Iggy Pop the Father of Punk. R. Kelly is a.k.a. Kells, a.k.a. the Pied Piper, a.k.a. the King of R&B, and  Mr. Show Biz.  Carles is the proprietor of phrase “Alt Bros” and possible Hipster of the Decade Candidate. Where does this leave Anitcon co founder Sole? Over the years he has sure more than contributed to the state of the whole indie rap thing? Has he earned a superlative yet? If not, he is about to considering what is coming down the line in 2010.

Sole has been pushing his new (free) mixtape Nuclear Winter all over the mean streets of the internet and it’s a wonder you don’t already have it on your computer. You should. Get it HERE.

Sole takes instrumentals from Kanye, Soulja Boy, Jay-Z, and Rick Ross and spices them up with more real talk and Chomsky references than any of the three could ever conceive. We are talking social, political and world issues and not just hooks made for ringtones. True, these song’s source materials are totally guilty pleasures, but with his new and enlightened lyrics over them all, the result is downright poetic. But he doesn’t go it alone, the free mix has guest spots from Solillaquists of Sound, Astronautalis, and Bleubird among others. Grab it all and if you feel so inclined you are welcome to leave a little donation in the tip jar just like you did for that Radiohead record and that Girltalk album.

Nuclear Winter is the first in a series of mixtapes that Sole has planned, so prepare ye the way for the Lord of the Maddest Fast Talking Skillz.

Here is a track to whet your appetite:
