Party Ends

el paraiso friday- john

December 10th, 2009

IMG_0804HUGE show at Beauty Bar Friday night (December 11th) in Austin. Prince Klassen who normally holds down the Friday night slot has out done himself this time around bringing in superstar DJs Mike 2600 and the Rub’s DJ Ayres. This lineup is so up my alley it’s not even funny.

No one has come close to being as prolific and influential in the trio of DJs from NYC the Rub. Ayres has given the royal treatment to Bjork, Biggie, and basically all of Hip Hop with his year-by-year megamixes of old school jamz available for free download HERE. Yessir, grab all you need to know about modern rap music from 1979 up to 1999. This guy was making crazy clever mashups for parties before Dangermouse made the term a household phrase. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Aryes a few times before and the last songs of the night are inevitably the best Houston jamz you can imagine.  I would be disappointed if Friday were any different.

Mike 2600 hails from the home of Prince (Minnepolis yall) and started out gaining my attention by putting the most filthy durty south rap possible over old school video game bleeps and bloops with a twist of bmore. He has since embraced punching up soul tunes and even obscure psychedelica. We’ve been over this before.  Mike co runs a rad little design house called Burlesque that has screen printing skills that will make you blush sometimes utilizing more screens per piece than your local megaplex. Burlesque are the fine folks who bring you the guerrilla campaign you may have seen on light poles in your town called Dre Day. Even cooler than anything else, Mike 2600 is a founding member of glockenspiel super group New Kids on the Glock.  Everything this guy touches seems to be of the highest quality and it is safe to say that his set at B Bar on Friday night will be legendary. Mike is probably my favorite cat in that whole game right now right up there with Bird Peterson. Pay attention to this DJ, and if you know of any Chanukah day one after parties going down after the bar closes, let him know!

Prince Klassen will be warming the whole place up with his arsenal of reedits and blends that have tested quite well Friday night after Friday night at Beauty Bar, not to mention all of his other residencies around town and international gigs. This kid is a Austin institution just like the moon towers and they guy with the Batman tattoo on his chest that walks around music festivals with a creepy grin and spiked bleached blond hair. Act like you know.

The show is cheap and even cheaper if you RSVP by emailing your name and the name of your guest to beautybaraustinrsvp@gmail.com with DJ Ayres & Mike 2600 RSVP in the subject line. 21 and up only.

Come hear a panel discussion exploring storytelling in film today. The panel is part of “Tribeca Film Institute at The New School,” a new series that presents leaders from film and digital media production, financing, and distribution.

I’m worried that the Pit bull requirements a special kind of operator…these dogs, no matter how ‘loving’ still have teeth, are still creatures with no moral ideas and once they DO bite, won’t allow go. As in all animals…some have a tendency to be far more suseptable to instinctual habits and time and time again, this breed tends to do just that.
