Party Ends

the_mountain_goats_-_the_life_of_the_world_to_comeOne of my all time favorite quotes about the Mountain Goats (and yes, there are several) is that John Darnielle is a guy who sings and plays of acoustic guitar but he is not one of those guys who sings and plays acoustic guitars. The same applies to his new record The Life Of The World To Come which is full of songs named after and based around bible verses- but it is not one of those records full of songs named after and based around bible verses. It is certainly not a new concept, but with his forlorn and insightful spin, it makes me want to get in line for a midnight Christmas mass here in mid November.  It lacks the pretension of what might be assumed. OR maybe it doesn’t. Maybe over the span of almost 20 albums he has built up a fanbase that will jump thru any hoop just to be closer to thee.

His last tour across America in support of 2008’s Heretic Pride had the support Khaki King who shared the stage with him for several songs and supported Darinelle creatively in a way that seemed to fuel him to make fresh the songs that after this years of touring could use a new angle for him.  The fans would be happy one way or the other.  She allowed him a new rendering of his music and if that means he will carry on to create more and play it publicly then god bless her. Final Fantasy opens up this round of tour dates and it can be assumed that since the elfin Owen Pallet contributed to the string arrangements on the  new record that he will join in on stage making for a memorable Antone’s experience.  Pallet will serve as the King this time around and in doing so will present a different Mountain Goats show than Austin has seen before. Antone’s, a venue known for the blues , will certainly get it in spades if the Mountain Goats play songs off Get Lonely or The Life Of The World To Come (which, they no doubt will) and a packed house of disciples will wait on baited breath for every lyric.  Amen.

Also playing: string looping maestro Final Fantasy and the anarchist folk of Larkin Grimm.  Doors are at 8pm.

Get your advance tickets HERE! And enjoy this single off the new record- the keyboards always remind me of the theme from Doogie Howser M.D.
