So, I can’t say this Miles Fisher character’s sonic stylings are all that catered to my tastes, leaning toward crystalline bubblegum auto-tune pop. But, there are some other pretty awesome things going on here, not including his part on Mad Men as the welcome wearing dealer of jazz cigarettes. I can’t speak for the rest of this guy’s musical background- it would seem there’s only a recently released record, available for free from his website, no less- but this particular version of the Talking Heads’ classic This Must be the Place is surprisingly un-hateable, despite the fact that, when broken down, it very much should be (ie. some cocky hot-shot young actor puts out a record that revels in it’s over-production and releases a classic 80’s song as the first and potentially only single with a music video staring himself).
But, there’s something about the overtness with which it’s pulled off, and the obvious humor Mr. Fisher approaches music with that disarms all of the other issues, the way Franz Ferdinand avoid coming off as pretentious assholes by tossing in the odd laugh or silly music video, something that makes them whisper ‘I really don’t take this too seriously’.
OK, so it helps that I deeply love American Psycho and that I’m still boyishly fascinated by how similar this dude looks to Christian Bale, and there’s a good chance that, after these charms wear off I’ll be left entirely annoyed by this whole production; but in the mean time, enjoy this surprisingly faithful, entirely over-budgeted for a cover song music video:

that is bizarre how dead on that bro is and how well the song works with it all.
