Attention hard working staff members, volunteers, sponsors, bands and unpaid interns that are involved with this crazy little thing we have come to call Fun Fun Fun Fest :

You all have done an amazing job of pulling off Fun Fun Fun Fest in the past but I think this year has already taken the cake before it even starts. This year’s incorporation of social media and invention of PIP seems to be unprecedentedly cool. Seriously, for a little extra dough: all the beer you can drink, private bathrooms and priority viewing areas? There is a festival in Zilker Park that does that too, but it costs almost 4K per person. You managed to pull it off for about 75 extra bucks. I love the lineup because its clear that it is the exact festival that you wanted to put together. No transparent ‘what is popular with the kids AND the old people with money these days’ bullshit that oozes off certain other festival’s lineups. Your continued partnership with that bro from Misprint who does all your graphics sets you apart from every other festival. Honestly, how cool (and symbolic) is that three-headed beast dog? GSD&M will probably try to scale the fence and learn a thing or two about “branding” this weekend. You are doing every single thing right that can and needs to be done right. Here is my big confession: I haven’t been hyping the fest up as I should because I have long had a secret: I will be out of town for a family wedding. Not just out of town. I’ll be in Mexico. Hopefully chugging margaritas with local Mariachi bands and eating fruit that is outlawed in America, but it won’t be the same as caving in my ear drums with the sludge of the Sword or as hearing Astronautalis‘ topical freestyles (balloon boy yall!)

I thought I could handle it- but now as I start to think about missing my friends perform, my fantasy friends perform, and the illustrious reunited Face to Face perform on the colorful stages you will erect in Waterloo Park, I am starting to get a little queasy. In a way FFFF is my family too and this wedding is pretty damn important in that it merges punk and comedy and whatnot. Sigh. But you guys are just going to outdo yourselves again next year. And I can be at that one no problemo. Unless, of course there is another family wedding.

So, that’s why I haven’t been blogging the hell out of the little fest that could and why we weren’t involved with any sort of quirky Twitter scavenger hunt for tickets. It would be too hard to pump up something that I can’t be at this time around. Have a blast and good luck in the these final days to evacuate bums from the park and to make sure that Danzing has plenty of room to stretch out before he takes the stage.

I’m not even sure if PartyEnds Luther realizes that the festival is this weekend.
Oh well.
