triple scoop- john

April 24th, 2009

triplescoopThe Chris Riley campaign has been doing an excellent job of reaching out to the arts community in Austin.  He already had the cyclist vote locked down because he hasn’t had a car in years,  but thru a series of well booked free concerts around town he has made quite the impression  on the Red River set also.  This next free event that is going down on Saturday is no exception.  Billed as Triple Scoop, the night is a concert, an art show and an ice cream social.  It is all happening at United States Art Authority (2908 Fruth Street), and features free vegan ice cream (!!) from locally owned and operated NadaMoo.  I have a tub of it in my freezer right now and wish it were in my mouth as I type this.  The event is aimed to raise commitment in voter turnout in the City Council elections and ideally- to get people to see that Chris Riley is the man for the seat 1 job.

The gallery show will feature visual wall art and small installations by twenty local artists including Rachel Koper, Tim Kerr, and Joshua Sampson. The musical lineup represents a good cross-section of Austin’s local independent music scene and includes DJ MVSCLZ, La Snacks, Follow That Bird!, Built By Snow, Dikes of Holland, Baby Robots, The Black, and Cry Blood Apache. This is a bill that normally may not even exist and even if it did, it would cost a good chunk of change to witness.  The fact that all of these diverse artist are coming together to support Chris Riley resonates to his qualifications and his popularity amongst the younger generation of Austin.  Is Chris Riley the new Obama?
